All our problems are solved!” At least that’s how some reacted when it was discovered that the May 2019 Update for Windows 10 will give users some control over when feature updates are installed. This reaction is perfectly understandable after last year’s update disasters, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up just yet. There are widespread reports that the recent April update for Windows 10 has caused system freezes, crashes and slowdowns for some users. Microsoft’s problems with updating Windows 10 have been so serious and been going on for so long that they are a good reason to consider moving to a different operating system.[br][br] (, 下载次数: 0) [br][br]Some Windows 10 update problems[br][br]Updates for Windows 10 were a nightmare in 2018. The April update failed to complete for some users, didn’t work at all for others, was incompatible with some Intel and Toshiba SSDs, produced a BSOD (blue screen of death) with some games, caused the Chrome browser to crash and more. Some systems wouldn’t boot after installing a patch intended to fix some of these problems.[br][br]The October update was worse—a lot worse. First off, the update could fail to initialize and crash the system if there wasn’t enough space on the hard drive. Microsoft didn’t bother to checkavailable disk space before launching the upgrade. Next, and far more serious, early adopters found the update deleted all the files in their Users][Username]]Documents directory which included their personal Word, Excel, music and photo files. Microsoft delayed rolling out the October update when reports of the problem hit the internet, but it did nothing for months beforehand when testers brought the problem to its attention. Problems with the October Update and its many patches continued into 2019.[br][br]2018 was not an exception to the rule. In 2016, updates caused some systems to freeze or lose connection to the internet. Some users found their webcams no longer worked. Microsoft also automatically installed an “update” which was actually a stealth program that upgraded Windows 7 and 8 systems to Windows 10 without the user’s approval. In 2017, the update process failed to complete or erroneously reported that it had failed to complete for some users.
