A BIS regulation had set a weight restriction of 1.2 kg on two-wheeler helmets to qualify for ISI certification. However, the new standard is likely to allow ISI certification for heavier high quality helmets.[br][br][br] (, 下载次数: 0) [br][br]The Indian government is soon expected to bring out a new standard meant for heavier two-wheeler helmets and imported head gear of superior quality. According to a report by ETAuto, the government will bring in standard norms for helmets that weigh more than 1.2 kg. This will be in addition to the earlier released regulation for helmets by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which called for reducing maximum weight of a helmet from 1.5 kg to 1.2 kg. This was suggested to make helmets more user-friendly.[br][br]This standard, however, was not welcomed by some players who import high quality helmets that are heavier than the aforementioned limit. These helmets are often in compliance with various international norms including the DOT in the USA and other European standards. But their weight, which usually exceeds 1.2 kg, makes them unqualified for an ISI certification, therefore, marring their sales.[br][br]The players who import high quality helmets have another reason to worry about. According to a guideline issued last year by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, sale of helmets without an ISI certification will be an offence. Once enforced, this guideline will stop the sale of non-ISI certified helmets in India, even if they are of superior quality.[br][br]However, the new standard by the government will address this issue and provide relief to the players importing heavier high quality helmets. Once the standards come in place, these imported helmets will qualify to obtain BIS certification and will remain eligible for sales in India.[br][br]source : timesnownews.com
