**New WhatsApp scam Messages steals your identity**

WhatsApp users have been urged to look out for a new scam which lures victims into a trap by promising two free flights to the US.
A warning has been issued about a dodgy message which said Virgin Atlantic was giving away a pair of tickets to one family in celebration of its 35th anniversary.

But anyone who clicks on the page could end up being fleeced mercilessly. It leads through to surveys designed to harvest your personal information, which could then be used to steal your identity. Naked Security, a blog run by the tech security firm Sophos, said the scam was ‘highly deceitful’.

The crooks who designed the trick message have tried to make their ploy more successful by disguising the web address so it looks just like virginatlantic.com. They cleverly replaced the letter r with ‘ṛ’, which has a dot under it and is used when ‘transliterating’ a variety of languages, which means replacing letters of one script with letters from another.

If you fall for the trick and click on the link, you’re taken to a page which ‘attempts to lend itself some legitimacy with Virgin Atlantic branding and a collection of fake Facebook comments’.

This is designed to fool you into handing over vital personal information. ‘If you get a WhatsApp message, tweet, Facebook post, email or other unsolicited message that seems too good to be true, it probably is,’ Naked Security added.
