[br][p][br][h1]Download & use Google Translate[/h1][div][p]You can translate text, handwriting, photos, and speech in over 100 languages with the Google Translate app. Or you can use Translate on the web.[p][br][h2]Step 1: Download the Google Translate app[/h2][p]To get started, download the [a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.translate&26hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener"]Google Translate app for Android[/a].[p][strong]Note:[/strong] To translate images with your camera in all supported languages, your device must have an auto-focus camera and a dual-core CPU with ARMv7. For technical details, check your manufacturer’s instructions.[h2]Step 2: Set up Google Translate[/h2][p]The first time you open Google Translate, you’ll be asked to choose your primary language and the language you translate most often. To pick from available languages, tap the Down arrow.[p]To download both languages for offline use, leave "Translate offline" checked. If either language isn’t available for download, it will say "Not available offline."[p][strong]Note:[/strong] To download a language, by default, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.[p][br][h1]Download languages to use offline[/h1][/div][p]You can download languages onto your device. This lets you translate them without an internet connection.[p]After you’ve downloaded a language, you could be able to translate it by looking at it through your device's camera lens.[p][br][h2]Choose & download languages[/h2][ol][li]Make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network.[/li][li]Open the Translate app.[/li][li]On either side of the screen, at the top, tap the language.[/li][li]Next to the language you want to download, tap Download. If it’s not there, the language can’t be downloaded.[/li][li]If asked to download the language file, tap [strong]Download[/strong].[/li][/ol][p]Next to each language saved on your device, you’ll see Downloaded.[h3]Download languages without Wi-Fi[/h3][p]You can tell Translate to download languages without a Wi-Fi connection. Language files are small, but downloading without Wi-Fi could affect your mobile carrier charges.[ol][li]Open the Translate app.[/li][li]Tap Menu.[/li][li]Tap Settings.[/li][li]Tap [strong]Data usage[/strong].[/li][li]Tap [strong]Download offline translation files[/strong].[ul][li]To always be asked before downloading without Wi-Fi, tap [strong]Ask before downloading[/strong].[/li][li]To always download with mobile data when you can't use Wi-Fi, tap [strong]Use Wi-Fi or mobile network[/strong].[/li][/ul][/li][/ol][h2]Update or remove languages[/h2][ol][li]Make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network.[/li][li]Open the Translate app.[/li][li]Tap Menu > [strong]Offline translation[/strong].[/li][li]You’ll see a list of the languages available.[/li][ul][li]To upgrade a language to a higher-quality language pack: Next to the language, tap [strong]Upgrade[/strong].[/li][li]To update a language on your device: Next to the language, tap [strong]Update[/strong].[/li][li]To delete a language from your device, tap Remove. When asked if you want to remove the offline package, tap [strong]Remove[/strong].[/li][/ul][/ol][p][br][h1]Get gender-specific translations[/h1][div][p]In some languages, you can get both feminine and masculine translations for some gender-neutral words or phrases. A “Translations are gender-specific” message shows above the 2 translations.[p][br][h2]Use available languages & lengths[/h2][p]In several languages, you can get gender-specific translations for single words. In fewer languages, you can also get gender-specific translations for short phrases and sentences that mention a person in a gender-neutral way.[p]Gender-specific translations in more languages are coming soon.[h2][a id="order" name="order"][/a]Understand gender-specific translation order[/h2][p]Gender-specific translations show in alphabetical order by gender label. For example, in English, “feminine” comes alphabetically before “masculine.”[p]In languages without alphabets, gender-specific translations show in each language’s standard indexing order by gender label.[h2][a id="troubleshoot" name="troubleshoot"][/a]Troubleshoot gender-specific translations[/h2][ul][li][strong]Can’t share or suggest an edit:[/strong][br]Gender-specific translations don’t yet work with all Google Translate options.
