[p]Toyota has announced its electric vehicle plans for the global market. Toyota has revealed that it would develop and launch ten new electric cars before 2025 and these cars would cover six of the most important automotive segments. [br][p]The ten new EVs from Toyota will be built on a brand new BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) platform. Toyota is one of the most well-known automotive companies in the world. Toyota's cars are some of the most reliable machines on earth and Toyota has also earned the badge in being a pioneer in the world of green cars including pure electric vehicles as well as hybrids.[p]Toyota started its work on sustainable and green mobility way before electric vehicles were trending. Well, now they are trending and growing at an alarming rate across the world. Several new companies have come up and have taken advantage of it by using new technologies that somehow make Toyota's offering old and almost boring. [br][p]Toyota though is not one of those companies that would back down. The Japanese automotive giant has claimed that it would develop ten electric vehicles to be launched over the next six years across six popular automotive segments. [br][p]One of the biggest drawbacks of Toyota electric cars currently on sale in international markets is the fact that they were developed several years ago and hence made use of the same platform as their fossil-fueled siblings did.[p]Now though, things have changed. Toyota is using a new approach to the whole development of the electric vehicles. All ten electric vehicles would be based on one platform — a BEV platform being developed specifically for this purpose. [br][p]The BEV will be similar to the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that first came out with the 2015 Toyota Prius. This is because the new BEV platform will be based on TNGA's design as it allows the use of front, rear and all-wheel-drive drivetrain — exactly what Toyota needs to underpin ten different cars. [br][p]Out of the ten, only six models will be global models while the other four will be restricted to a few markets only. Toyota will be targeting six segments that have global relevance in terms of sales.[p]The segments which will see Toyota's new EVs are compact cars, Medium Crossover, Medium Sedan, Medium Minivan, Medium SUV, and large SUVs. The compact cars are essentially small hatchbacks designed for urban and intra-city usage. These cars will be co-developed with Suzuki and Daihatsu. It includes cars as small as a two-seater. A compact hatchback of this sort might make it to the Indian market as well. [br][p]The Large SUVs and Minivan might be targeted at the American market. India is one of the largest markets for Toyota and given the projected rate of growth in the Indian EV industry, Toyota surely wouldn't want to miss out on the Indian market. We can expect a small hatchback, a slightly more premium hatchback, a medium sedan and a medium crossover to be launched in India. |
