[br][br]ANDROID fans are being warned about a number of popular Google Play Store apps which are hiding a shocking secret.[br][br]Android users have been put on alert about Google Play Store apps used by millions which are hiding a shocking secret.[br][br]Android is one of the most used pieces of software in the world, with the Google mobile OS running on over two billion devices each and every month.[br][br]And Android fans are no strangers to receiving security alerts, with a recent large scale threat spotted by experts.[br][br]Some six Android apps that were downloaded a staggering 90million times from the Google Play Store were found to have the PreAMo malware.[br][br]While another recent threat saw 50 malware-filled apps on the Google Play Store infect over 30million Android devices.[br][br]But while these type of threats are malware related, a new Android warning has been issued over something more shocking entirely.[br][br]Android users are being warned about several popular apps found on the Google Play Store that have been allegedly collecting and storing sensitive data.[br][br]This user data was reportedly taken without encryption or permission from Android users with the offending Google Play Store apps downloaded 100million times.[br][br]And it’s claimed the apps were developed by Chinese companies who may be sharing collected data with the Chinese government.[br][br]Here are some of the Android apps found on the Google Play Store which were named in the Buzzfeed Investigation:[br][br]• Selfie Camera[br][br]• Total Cleaner[br][br]• Smart Cooler[br][br]• RAM Master[br][br]• AIO Flashlight[br][br]• Omni Cleaner[br][br]• WaWaYaYa[br][br]• Emoji Flashlight[br][br][br]
[br][br]One of the offending Android apps was downloaded more than 50million times from the Google Play Store.[br][br]Buzzfeed said the apps in question were “committing large-scale ad fraud and abusing user permissions”.[br][br]The apps were made by Chinese developer DO Global, and in light of the findings listings for 46 apps made by the dev were removed by Google.[br][br]A spokesperson for the search engine giant said: “We explicitly prohibit ad fraud and service abuse on Google Play.[br][br][br][br]
[br][br]“Developers are required to disclose the collection of personal data, and only use permissions that are needed to deliver the features within the app.[br][br]“If an app violates our policies, we take action that can include banning a developer from being able to publish on Play.”[br][br]In a follow-up article in which Buzzfeed claimed Google were banning DO Global the search engine giant added: “We actively investigate malicious behaviour, and when we find violations, we take action, including the removal of a developer’s ability to monetise their app with AdMob or publish on Play”.[br][br]While in a statement DO Global said: “We fully understand the seriousness of the allegations. Therefore, after reading the reports about our apps, we immediately conducted an internal investigation on this matter.[br][br]“We regret to find irregularities in some of our products’ use of AdMob advertisements. Given this, we fully understand and accept Google's decision. Moreover, we have actively cooperated with them by doing a thorough examination of every app involved.[br][br]“We would like to thank you again for your reports. Moving forward, we will strictly follow relevant regulations and continue conducting a comprehensive review of our products.[br][br]“Lastly, during this process, we have caused misunderstandings and great concern due to our being unable to communicate in a timely manner and provide complete information.
