[br]For millions of users across the globe who rely on Gmail to stay in touch with work, friends and family, there is bad news. Google has decided to pull the plug on a few features of the service that was quite popular with many users.[br][br]For those who used the If This Then That ( IFTTT) service to perform automated functions from within Gmail, Google has announced that some of its core features will stop working after March 31.[br][br]As per reports, Google sent out emails to some users informing them that IFTTT applets won’t work with Gmail starting on March 31, 2019. The reason that Google has given The reasoning given for this change is that Google claims IFTTT hasn’t “complied with the updated data privacy requirements announced on October 8, 2018.”[br][br]Because of this, post-March 31, auto-forward messages, integration of emails with Google Calendar, and send notifications will no longer work with Gmail. However, other Google services such as Google Assistant and Google Drive will still support the IFTTT. Further, other free email services, such as Outlook will also maintain functionality for IFTTT.[br][br]Earlier, Google had announced that it will be shutting down the Inbox by Gmail app. The app will officially be discontinued on April 2. The company is also scheduled to bring an end to Google+ on the same day. Both the apps brought with them important features that helped shape modern day social media platforms and e-mail services. However, with time user interest in them started to wane and it appears its finally time that Google shuts them down for good. |
