How Google wants to map the world’s air quality

[img src="/storage/emulated/0/Download/69335565.jpg"][br][br]While tech giant Google has several products and services that have made life easier, its Maps app has certainly changed things for better. However, the California-based company now wants to take things level up. As per a report by Digital Trends, Google is in the processing of mapping how good or bad the world’s  Air Quality is.[br][br]As per the report, Google has something called “Street View Cars”, which basically is a a fleet of camera-equipped vehicles patrolling and photographing streets. However, these cars have also been measuring air quality and as per Digital Trends, “Google has been building a map of air quality not just in different cities, or different neighborhoods, but on the “hyper-local” level of individual blocks or streets.”[br][br]The project now has gone international and is known as Google Project Air View. It started off in the US with cities like New York and in the state of California. It is now in London, Netherlands and Copenhagen. The report quotes Karin Tuxen-Bettman, program manager for a division of Google called Google Earth Outreach as saying, “We’ve gone very slowly, because air quality measurement is a difficult field. We wanted to make sure we were doing it right.”[br][br]How Google Project Air View Works[br][br][br]The street view cars are equipped with sensors that have the ability to take multiple readings of air quality. These samples, as per the Digital Trends report, are collected through an intake tube which is fitted on the car’s front bumper. The samples are then filtered through to an analysis unit which is fitted inside the trunk of the car. Once the data is collected, it is sent to Google Cloud where the company analyses and integrates into a detailed map, which is growing by the day.[br][br]Google is expanding the Project Air View and 50 more Street View cars will be rolled out this year to reach more cities then ever. Tuxen-Bettman told Digital Trends that other companies too can adopt the tech. She said, “We hope that we’re not the only ones in the future doing this.
