Pochettino relieved as Spurs progress past plucky Dons

Mauricio Pochettino was relieved to see his side ease past AFC Wimbledon, after the League One side held Tottenham for over 60 minutes at Wembley.

Jan Vertonghen scored his first club goal in five years to make it 3-0 after Harry Kane had bagged a brace in the space of a couple of minutes.

Wimbledon’s Jimmy Abdou hit the crossbar with a curling first-half effort and Spurs needed 63 nervy minutes at Wembley before finally breaking down their League One opponents.

“It was a difficult game,” Pochettino told the BBC.

“Wimbledon played so well. They had a few chances which they could have scored from.

“It was a solid performance from us. The second half was difficult – they started well and had some chances. We scored then and again quick and the game was over.

“We are happy because we’re in the draw. We hope to get a home draw. The team deserve this.

“This is a competition we’ll like to go far in. In my opinion I try to put out the best side to play.”
