[br][br][br]Google has introduced a new feature called "Stay Safer" which focuses on keeping users safe while they are riding in a taxi or driving by themselves. The new features aim to alert Android users who are travelling in public vehicles if their drivers deviate more than 0.5km from the suggested route on Google Maps. "Through our extensive research across India, we found that a lot of people limit their mobility due to safety-related concerns. To address this, we are launching this India-first feature," said Amanda Bishop, Product Manager, Google Maps was quoted in a report from IANS.[br][br]How to use "Stay Safer" feature[br][br]According to Google, after searching for your destination and getting directions, you can enable this feature by selecting the "Stay safer" and "Get off-route alerts" option. If your driver deviates more than 0.5KM from the Google Maps suggested route, your phone will buzz with a prominent notification, and you can tap it to see where you are compared to the original route. [br][br]Then, you can also choose to share your live trip with friends and family directly from that screen so they know you are off route and can keep track of your journey, and take appropriate action if required.[br][br]The new feature also allows users to choose between the live trip with friends and family directly from that screen so they can know and can also keep track of your journey. Earlier in June, the feature was being tested exclusively in India. For now, it remains unclear if users of Google Maps in other countries are also getting the "Stay Safer" feature or not. [br][br]Apart from that, Google has also been updating Maps with a whole lot of updates which includes a speedometer and additional support for showing radar locations.[br][br]The company also launched three new public transport features including live train status, to help Map users in 10 of the largest cities in India to see bus travel times from live traffic, get live train status for Indian Railways and get mixed-mode commute suggestions that now combine auto-rickshaw and public transport.[br][br]Source : timesnownews. com |
