[p]The Income Tax Department issues a ten-digit permanent account number (PAN) which is one of the most important financial document in the country. P serves as identity proof across the country. As per the rules, an individual cannot hold two PAN cards simultaneously since it is considered illegal. In order to get a PAN card, one needs to pay Rs 110 and submit their address proof, ID proof etc.

[p]One can enrol for PAN through online, as well as, offline. After enrolling and successfully submitting all the required documents, PAN card is sent to the applicant’s address via post. Theycan track the status of their PAN card application easily since it is quite a simple process. Once you apply for a PAN card or update/correct any information in your PAN, you get an acknowledgement number which can be used to track the status of your PAN application.

[p]It may be noted that when an applicant successfully submits their PAN card application, a unique 15-digit code is generated and allotted to the applicant. This is known as the PAN card acknowledgement number and it can be used to track the status of the PAN card generation or update. The acknowledgement number can also be used to download the ePAN card within one month of issuance of the new PAN card from both NSDL and UTIITSL website.
