According to a report by The Verge, Google is going to replace the SMS platform with the next-generation platform called Rich Communication Services (RCS). It is said to offer features such as read receipts, high-quality attachments, letting a user know when the contact is typing and more.[br][br][br]But one thing that is missing in this end-to-end encryption — which is there is other platforms such as WhatsApp, iMessages etc. Sanaz Ahari, product management director overseeing Android Messages told The Verge, “We fundamentally believe that communication, especially messaging, is highly personal and users have a right to privacy for their communications. And we’re fully committed to finding a solution for our users.”[br][br]Starting next month, Google will roll this out for Android users in UK and France, where they will have to opt-in for Google's own RCS Chat services. As for when the other countries will get it, Google says that it will release the services “throughout the year,” but did not commit as to when it will available in all regions.[br][br]Once it is rolled out, Android users will see a prompt banner to upgrade to RCS Chat when they open up the Android Messages app. As per the The Verge report, RCS Chat will be in the default app and offered to every Android user eventually.[br][br]As encryption remains one of the biggest challenges of the platform, Drew Rowny, product lead for Messages told The Verge “From a data retention point of view, we delete the message from our RCS backend service the moment we deliver it to an end user,” he explains, adding “If we keep it, it’s just to deliver it when that person comes online.”[br][br][br]Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.timesofindia.com/gadgets-news/android-users-google-messages-app-is-set-to-change/amp_articleshow/69851746.cms [br][br] |
